One does not simply visit the library
KHCPL’s first LibraryCon takes place May 17 at all three locations
Gamers and storytellers of all kinds are invited to the Kokomo-Howard County Public Library’s upcoming Story & Strategy: A Library Con.
Taking place Saturday, May 17, Library Con will include games like Dungeons & Dragons, board games, Live Action Role-Play, a costume contest, workshops, a vendor hall and an outdoor movie night. Activities will take place at all three KHCPL locations, and those who visit every location will earn a prize while supplies last.
The bulk of the event will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. At 10 a.m., the library will host a virtual author visit with Maureen Johnson, bestselling author of books like the “Truly Devious” series and her latest novel, “Murder at Morning House.” This event will take place at KHCPL Main, 220 N. Union St.
Also starting at 10 a.m., the vendor hall will open to the public at KHCPL South, 1755 E. Center Road. Vendors will sell art, 3D printed miniatures and other items, comics, books, movies and more. The vendor hall will be open until 4 p.m.
South will also host a cosplay contest at 3 p.m. on the Firefly Stage. All cosplayers are invited to compete for a chance to win a prize.
Kingdom Cards & Games will host board games from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at KHCPL Main, and South will host games of Werewolf during that time frame as well.
At KHCPL Russiaville, River’s Edge will host Live Action Role-Play demonstrations in the Nature Explore Outdoor Classroom until the end of the main Con. From 2-4 p.m., visitors can experience virtual reality in the meeting room. Then, at 5:30 p.m., the branch will host Dungeons & Dragons, followed by an outdoor movie night starting at 9 p.m.
Throughout the day, the Digital Den at KHCPL Main will host various workshops, including a cosplay class at 10 a.m., a 3D printing workshop at 11 a.m., a Game Master Panel at 1 p.m. and miniature painting at 2 p.m.
KHCPL South will also host a Manga book discussion at 11 a.m., a discussion on all things Brandon Sanderson at noon and a graphic novel book discussion starting at 1 p.m.
Each location will also host a food truck: KHCPL Main will host Imagine Burger; KHCPL South will host Tastefully Indiana; and KHCPL Russiaville will host Prep ‘n’ Go.
All events are free and open to the public, though the vendors and food trucks will have items available to purchase. Library Con is primarily designed for adults and teens.
