Symposium selects three to ‘Seize the Joy’
In celebration of this year’s theme, “Seize the Joy,” members of Symposium have determined the 2025 Ann Darby McCann Fund will support three community-based initiatives that reflect the enduring legacy of Ann Darby McCann and the spirit of joyful giving.
A total of $2,222 will be awarded to projects that enrich lives through literature, learning, and cultural engagement.
The fund is held by the Community Foundation of Howard County and stewarded annually by Symposium, which supports educational and cultural programs in Howard County. This year’s selected initiatives are as follows:
Howard County Reads – $1,122
Howard County Public Library hosts a community-wide reading initiative that promotes a love of literature through shared reading experiences, author visits, book discussions, and outreach to local schools and libraries. The program fosters connection and community through the power of story.
Pages of Potential – $500
A literacy mentorship collaboration between Ivy Tech Community College and Elwood Haynes Elementary School, this program supports third-grade students at risk of failing the IREAD assessment. Ivy Tech volunteers mentor students and provide books, snacks, and engaging activities. Symposium’s funding will specifically support nutritious snacks for students in this program.
Architectural Tour of the Seiberling Mansion – $600
Howard County Historical Society will host esteemed preservationist and author Paul Diebold for a free public event that will offer a guided architectural tour of the historic Seiberling Mansion. The program invites the community to deepen their appreciation of local history and architectural preservation. The event will take place this summer.
