PPG Industries Inc. submitted a follow-up letter to the city of Kokomo on April 4, concerning investigation of soil gas contamination at the company’s 990 E. Carter St. location. The investigation is being conducted under the supervision of the Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM).

Previous investigations uncovered the presence of chlorinated volatile organic compounds (VOCs) at the site. In 2020, VOCs were detected near one of the city’s combined storm and sanitary sewers on the site. However, the source of the contaminant could not be determined.
