The parking lot was packed at Redeemer Lutheran School last Friday as hundreds of parents, grandparents, aunts, and uncles gathered to watch their kids race in the 33rd annual Tricycle 500.
The event is held each May, and it allows students in the pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten classes to compete in a series of heats to see who is the fastest cyclist. Of course, it was mostly for fun, as was evident by the cheers and encouragement from the crowd.
Race Day began with a parade lap around the “track,” complete with a pony rider, a flag bearer, and Redeemer Lutheran’s own Tricycle 500 Festival princesses. Then it was off to the races.
The festivities weren’t limited to the youngest students, however. The fourth-grade class serenaded the crowd with their rendition of “Back Home Again in Indiana,” and several of the older students volunteered to help keep the event organized on on-track.
