Slowing down Indian Heights
Speed bumps not a popular solution, but other options in short supply
Some jokingly refer to it as Kokomo’s Indy 500. The 2½-mile outer ring of the Indian Heights subdivision is known for its excessive speeds as much as its long, sweeping curves. Many residents in the neighborhood long have been concerned about speeding, and during the 2019 city election cycle, it became an issue.
Politicians promised to look into solutions. In the two years since that campaign, however, nothing has been done to alleviate the problem.
The solution that garnered the most attention was the possibility of adding speed bumps in the subdivision. It is not as very popular solution inside City Hall.
