The way up is down
There’s a saying that has stuck with me: the way up is down. It might sound simple, but it carries a deep truth when it comes to life, success, and growth; whether in your career, your calling, or even in sports.
What’s always puzzled me is how quick people are to think highly of themselves. Some walk around with this heavy air of pride like their gifts just appeared out of nowhere, or worse, as if they earned them by themselves. But that couldn’t be further from the truth.
The talents we have, the skills we carry, the doors that open for us, they aren’t just random. They’re gifts. They’ve been given to us for a purpose. And that purpose isn’t to boast or draw attention to ourselves. It’s to give glory to God.
Some might say, “God didn’t help me, this person did.” But the truth is, God is the one who gave you favor with that person. That connection, that support, that opportunity, none of it happens without God’s hand in it. People are often just vessels God uses to get you where He wants you to be.
So, whenever you feel that rise of pride, whenever you start thinking, “Look at what I’ve done,” catch yourself. The way forward, the way higher, is always through humility.
The way to real, lasting elevation is to stay low in heart. To remember who it came from. To walk gently. To serve.
The way up … is down.
Stay humble. Stay humble. Stay humble.
