Ever since the age of 2, when he made his very first shot, Brandon Wood has taken basketball seriously. Now at age 33, after an illustrious Division I college and pro career, he continues to reinvent himself and find new ways to improve his game.
“I’m just happy to have been able to evolve with the game,” Wood said.
Wood is now at a stage in his career that makes him a super threat on the court. He is at his peak in terms of athleticism, and his overall knowledge of the game is at its height. He does not necessarily feel that he has anything to prove, however.
“Through my preparation, I’m still preparing to reach that ultimate goal [the NBA],” said Wood. “Just trying to get the most out of every day and max the game out.”
Recently, Wood was involved with a basketball venture called “The Basketball Tournament,” which launched in 2014. He first became involved with the tournament four years ago when he created a team that consisted of all Michigan State basketball alumni.
This year, he made an old connection with Valparaiso University teammates. Valpo is where Wood obtained his undergraduate degree before heading to Big Ten basketball powerhouse Michigan State to pursue his Master’s degree.
“It’s been cool to be with a new team and represent the university well,” Wood said.
Wood recently generated buzz in Kokomo by competing in “The 33-Point Contest,” a highly competitive 3-point contest in its second year in The Basketball Tournament. The event is hosted in several locations across the country and has one representative from each team in the tournament going head-to-head against one another in a shootout. The first person to hit 11 three pointers wins the round.
