The main office of United Way Serving Howard and Tipton Counties is in Kokomo, Indiana; it is expected that the CEO be a resident in the service area.
POSITION OVERVIEW
As the CEO of United Way Serving Howard and Tipton County, you will be responsible for providing strategic leadership and vision. You will work closely with the board of directors, community partners, staff, and volunteers to advance the organization's mission of improving lives by mobilizing the caring power of communities. The CEO will have the overall responsibility for the management, growth, and impact of United Way's operations and programs.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
As the CEO of United Way Serving Howard and Tipton County, you will be responsible for providing strategic leadership and vision. You will work closely with the board of directors, community partners, staff, and volunteers to advance the organization's mission of improving lives by mobilizing the caring power of communities. The CEO will have the overall responsibility for the management, growth, and impact of United Way's operations and programs.
Essential job duties and responsibilities: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership:
Develop and implement a long-term strategic plan to guide the organization's direction, ensuring alignment with United Way's mission and values.
Identify emerging trends, issues, and opportunities in the nonprofit sector and community development to drive innovation and create positive social change.
Foster a culture of collaboration, inclusivity, and transparency among staff, volunteers, partners, and stakeholders.
Organizational Management:
Oversee all aspects of United Way's operations, including finance, human resources, fundraising, marketing, and program delivery, ensuring effective and efficient utilization of resources.
Recruit, develop, and lead a high-performing team of professionals, providing guidance, support, and mentorship to maximize their potential.
Establish performance metrics and accountability systems to measure progress and ensure the achievement of organizational goals and objectives.
Resource Development and Fundraising:
Develop and execute comprehensive fundraising strategies to secure financial resources necessary for the organization's sustainability and growth.
Cultivate and maintain relationships with major donors, corporations, foundations, government agencies, and community leaders to enhance fundraising efforts.
Actively engage in donor stewardship, ensuring effective communication, recognition, and appreciation of their contributions.
Community Engagement and Advocacy:
Serve as the primary spokesperson and advocate for United Way, effectively communicating the organization's mission, impact, and value proposition to the community, media, and key stakeholders.
Build and strengthen strategic partnerships with community organizations, government agencies, nonprofits, and businesses to address community needs and maximize United Way's impact.
Engage in public policy discussions and advocacy efforts to influence systemic change and create a more equitable society.
Governance and Board Relations:
Collaborate with the board of directors to establish strategic priorities, policies, and governance frameworks that align with United Way's mission and uphold ethical standards.
Provide regular reports, updates, and recommendations to the board, ensuring transparency and accountability in organizational performance.
Support board development and engagement, including recruitment, orientation, and ongoing education of board members.
EDUCATION/REQUIREMENTS
A Bachelor’s degree; Master’s preferred.
Five years of executive leadership experience, preferably within the nonprofit sector, demonstrating a track record of driving organizational growth, impact, and financial sustainability.
Strong strategic thinking and visionary leadership abilities, with the capacity to inspire and motivate diverse stakeholders.
Excellent communication skills, including public speaking, media relations, and effective storytelling to convey United Way's mission and impact.
Proven experience in fundraising and resource development, including major gift solicitation, corporate partnerships, and grant writing.
Sound financial acumen, experience in budget development, financial management, and reporting.
Knowledge of community development, social issues, and public policy advocacy.
Must re-locate to Howard or Tipton Counties within six months of job acceptance.
