KHA offering aid to landlords housing recovering addicts
The Kokomo Housing Authority will hold a meeting on Wed., Oct. 18, for landlords interested in a program that can mitigate associated expenses resulting from providing housing to people in recovery from substance abuse.
The Landlord Mitigation Reserve Program is multi-beneficial and is designed to assist individuals in recovery from substance use disorders who often face difficulties finding suitable, affordable housing. There are also tremendous benefits to the landlords who opt to participate in the program.
Landlords who agree to partner with the State of Indiana’s efforts in eliminating housing barriers for those individuals in recovery will be eligible to be reimbursed for unpaid rent, early lease termination fees, and expenses caused by damages to the rental unit. This program is available for any landlord in Indiana.
The meeting will take place in the council chambers on the first floor of Kokomo’s City Hall, 100 S. Union St., from 11:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. Attending this meeting in no way obligates any landlord to participate in the program. For additional information, call the housing authority at 765-459-3162, ext. 1305, or email hbegley@kokomokha.org.
IAC awards grants for creative entrepreneurs
The Indiana Arts Commission (IAC) announced it has awarded $78,000 to 39 creative entrepreneurs to fund arts projects around the state through the agency’s On-Ramp Creative Entrepreneur Accelerator program.
Each funded project will support the pursuit of a clearly defined business goal that also supports the entrepreneur’s community.
“The On-Ramp 2023 cohort is representative of the incredible talent, skill, and entrepreneurial spirit that is on display from artists all around the Hoosier state,” said Jordan Adams, Artist Services Program Manager with the Indiana Arts Commission. “The On-Ramp Fellowship allows artists to grow their creative careers here in Indiana, supporting economic growth and creating more vibrant places for Indiana residents to live, work, play, study, and stay.”
Robin Ligon Williams of Kokomo was one of the recipients. As a career arts administrator, designer, and curator, Ligon Williams will propel her creative work forward with a new website and marketing initiative. The website will feature five traveling exhibitions, visual/performing artist clients, her book, and other projects. Empowered by the new website, Ligon Williams will market projects to museums, galleries, and institutions whose missions align with her body of work.
