Last year, the beds of Kokomo Rescue Mission’s women’s homeless shelters were used a total of 18,792 times. That’s an average of 52 women and children staying in a shelter each night. The need is great, but the support of our community is even greater!
Kokomo Rescue Mission will hold its 24th annual Walk a Mile in My Shoes fundraiser on Saturday, February 22, to raise money for the women and children staying in their shelters. This one-mile walk includes a kickoff ceremony with Taylor High School’s jazz band and drum line at 8:30 a.m., a hot breakfast (freewill offering), tours of the two women’s shelters (Watered Garden and Open Arms), and a chance to hear women’s stories.
You can help with Walk a Mile by organizing a team to walk, registering to walk as an individual, and/or donating toward the cause. Visit www.kokomorescuemission.org/walk-a-mile to register and donate. You can also visit the Mission Monday-Friday, 9:00 AM-4:00 PM to register or donate (321 W. Mulberry St., Kokomo).

Them Coulee Boys play The Coterie March 14
Them Coulee Boys, a folk-rock group hailing from Eau Claire, Wisc., will play in Kokomo on Friday, March 14, at The Coterie, 107 W. Sycamore St. The band recently released a new single, “I Am Not Sad,” from their upcoming album, No Fun in the Chrysalis, which comes out Feb. 28 on Some Fun Records.
This album, their fifth, finds the band reunited with Grammy-winner Brian Joseph (Bon Iver, Kathleen Edwards, Sufjan Stevens). Recorded at The Hive Studios in their hometown, No Fun in the Chrysalis captures the authentic, unpredictable energy, four-part harmonies, and dynamic compositions that Them Coulee Boys have become known for as a live band.
Music review publication Goldmine writes, "TCB present their material with the presence of War on Drugs and Band of Horses (“Mountains”), but with an intimacy at times of Rick Danko’s best work with The Band ('I Am Not Sad’).
With four full-length albums and an EP behind them, including 2019’s Die Happy (produced by Trampled By Turtles’ Dave Simonett on Lo-Hi Records) and 2021’s Namesake (produced by Grammy-winner Brian Joseph), the band has garnered international attention and earned press in American Songwriter, Ditty TV, Folk Alley, and The Bluegrass Situation, as well as tours with Trampled By Turtles and a spot on the songwriter’s Cayamo Cruise.
Tickets for Them Coulee Boys at The Coterie are on sale now and can be purchased by visiting https://www.prekindle.com/promo/id/-2853509351439366269 . The March 14 concert starts at 9 p.m., and doors open at 8 p.m.

Welcome Table adds Cafe Mondays
Welcome Table Christian Community, a faith organization focused upon inclusion and worship, recently launched with Café Wednesdays. This weekly get-together takes place at the Starbucks in the Markland Plaza from 2-4 p.m. and provides an opportunity for Christian fellowship, prayer, and support.
The response to Café Wednesday was strong, and Welcome Table now has more than 100 followers and more than two dozen participants in its prayer and support group. Due to that response, Welcome Table has added Café Mondays, also held at Starbucks in the Markland Plaza, each week from 5:30-7 p.m., beginning Feb. 10.
“This is a ‘stop in and learn more about Welcome Table Christian Community’ opportunity for those in our surrounding area,” said Rev. Dr. Al Adams, the founding pastor of the community. “This week we will add Cafe' Mondays for those who are more likely to come in the evening. The love of Jesus is on the loose!”
Welcome Table also is establishing a Zoom account for virtual meetings and worship, which will take place as needed or desired. And the group intends to begin larger worship gatherings – called Soul Café – by Easter Sunday, April 20, at 4 p.m. The gatherings will take place at the Kokomo Howard County Public Library, initially, though the search is on for an affordable, permanent worship locale.
“Please hold us in prayer as we seek a place for informal, weekly gatherings where we can share food, worship, and plan ways to invite, welcome, include, and value even more of God's beloved, precious children to the Welcome Table of Christ Jesus,” said Adams.
