The Lady Panthers varsity girls basketball team is putting together a special season. Western is undefeated this year, and Kokomo High School was just one of many to fall before them.
The two schools faced off on Dec. 6, and Western came out on top, 48-39. The Lady Panthers relied heavily on their starting five, with only three points coming off the bench. Senior Chloe Hunt led all scorers with 18 points on 7-11 shooting. She also led her team with eight rebounds. Senior McKenna Smith added 10 points and three blocked shots.
For Kokomo, senior center Aijia Elliott led the team with 11 points, though she was held to just a single free throw in the second half. She also led her team with nine rebounds and six blocked shots.
The loss to Western started a three-game skid for the Lady Wildkats, who now sit at 6-5 on the season and travel to Northwestern High School on Thursday night. The Lady Panthers, currently ranked No. 4 in Class 3A, remain undefeated at 11-0 and will play in the Tippecanoe Valley tournament on Friday night.
