Township government was established in Indiana to provide five major services. Most people are familiar with their financial assistance programs for those in need. Some might know that townships can maintain cemeteries and provide fire services.
But one service that the Center Township Trustee’s office didn’t have an opportunity to provide until just recently is providing and maintaining parks. The City of Kokomo ceded control and maintenance of Somers Park in 2020. Now the trustee is trying to envision what the park will look like going forward.
Trustee Rev. Robert A. Lee held a public meeting on April 21 to accept input from citizens. HWC Engineering, a consultant on the matter, also was on-hand to provide a concept for Somers Park. The concept was fueled in part from a community survey that the township conducted through March 2022.
