Wood Carving Classes
The Eastern Woodland Carvers Club will offer free carving and woodburning classes starting Oct. 24. All supplies will be provided for classes. Carving tools will be available to purchase for take home as well. Veteran carvers will teach carving in the round, relief carving, chip carving, and woodburning. Classes will meet weekly at the clubhouse, 100 Jefferson St. in Converse on Tuesday evenings from 6-8 p.m. for six weeks. Ivy Tech Community College Kokomo will host Essential Skills for Managers Classes. Learn de-escalation skills, strength-based leadership skills, how to build a foundation for best practices, effective team management, how to develop trust and respect, and situational leadership modeling. These one-day courses run from 9 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. and include lunch. The Howard County Sheriff’s Office will hold its first-ever Trunk or Treat event on Thu., Oct. 26, from 5-8 p.m. at the Howard County Criminal Justice Center, 1800 W. Markland Ave. This event is open to the entire community. Bring your best costumes and meet the corrections officers, dispatchers, and deputies while you load up on candy.
Indoor Trunk or Treat

YMCA Pickleball Tournament
Grab a paddle and your teammate for the YMCA's first annual Pickleball Tournament on Sat., Oct. 28, at 8 a.m. This doubles tournament is for ages 18 and older. You are welcome to bring your own paddles and indoor pickleballs. All proceeds will go toward the YMCA’s Annual Campaign. Register your team of two, same-gender or co-ed. Safety Palooza
The Kokomo Fire Department, Peyton Manning Children’s Hospital, and Ascension St. Vincent will bring a day of fun to Kokomo on Sat., Oct. 28, with the 2023 Safety Palooza celebration in Foster Park. From 10 a.m. until 2 p.m., there will be free kids’ bicycle helmets and smoke detectors given away while supplies last. The department’s fire equipment will be on hand for a touch-a-truck experience. The Kokomo Parks and Recreation Department will hold a Monster Mash Bash on Sat., Oct. 28, in Jackson Morrow Park, 4200 S. Park Road. Fall activities begin from 3-6 p.m., and a Haunted Trail Walk runs from 6-8:30 p.m. Prepare to be scared. Little ones are encouraged to come through while the sun is still up. There will be a pumpkin contest, with judging taking place at 5:30 p.m. Show off your pumpkin, whether it’s carved, painted, decorated, or just a big one you’ve grown. Korean Culture

Greentown Historical Society annual meeting
The Greentown Historical Society will hold its annual meeting and dinner on Thu., Nov. 9. The event will begin at 6 p.m. at the Co-Alliance Community Building on the Howard County Fairgrounds in Greentown. The guest speaker for the meeting will be Brad Howell. The meal will be catered by Main Occasions Catering of Greentown. The cost for dinner is $25 per person. The meal will consist of two meats, ham and chicken, side dishes, and a drink included. Autumn Festival
The Indiana University Kokomo Staff Council will hold its Autumn Festival on Sat., Nov. 4, from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m., in the IU Kokomo Kelley Student Center, 2300 S. Washington St. The festival will showcase up to 100 local artisans with home décor, boutique, jewelry, glass, and much more. Free parking and admission.

Teens will have the chance to don a new identity and play a live game of Clue at the Kokomo Howard County Public Library on Sat., Nov. 4, from 2-5 p.m. This event takes place at the library’s south branch, 1755 E.
