Christmas Lights of Greentown

Mr. Scrooge’s Christmas
Curtain Call Theatre for Children will present productions of “Mr. Scrooge’s Christmas” on Sun., Dec. 11, at 2 p.m. The production will take place at the Curtain Call Studio, 2114 N. Holiday Brass Quintet Mini-Concert
The Kokomo Symphony Orchestra will present a Holiday Brass Quintet Mini-Concert on Sun., Dec. 11, at 3 p.m., at Grace United Methodist Church, 219 W. Mulberry St. Enjoy the most familiar sacred and secular tunes for the holiday season, performed by brass from the Kokomo Symphony Orchestra. ‘Tis the Season Paper Crafts

Children ages 3-5 can enjoy a special story time with songs and a gingerbread house craft at the Kokomo Howard County Library’s Gingerbread Fun event, Mon., Dec. 12, from 10-11 a.m. at the Russiaville branch, 315 Mesa St.; Wed., Dec. 14, from 10-10:45 a.m. at the South branch, 1755 E. STEAM Mania at the Library
Join the Kokomo Howard County Public Library for fun and games on Mon., Dec. 12, from 3-5 p.m. at its Russiaville location, 315 Mesa Dr. There will be STEAM-related games to play. And the more events you attend, the more free 3D printed items you can earn.
Silent Sky auditions
The Kokomo Civic Theatre will hold auditions for its next show, “Silent Sky,” on Mon., Dec. 12, and Tue., Dec. 13, at 6 p.m. each evening in the Kokomo Civic Theatre Warehouse, 722 N. McCann St. The show dates are Feb. 24-26. A script is on reserve at the Kokomo Howard County Public Library’s Main branch, 220 N. Union St. for those who want to review it in advance.
Genealogy Society meeting
The Howard County Genealogy Society will meet on Mon., Dec. 12, from 6-8 p.m. at the Kokomo Howard County Public Library, 220 N. Union St. The meeting will be followed by a “show and tell” program. What search success stories do you have? Share them during show and tell. Bring a snack to share, too. The society will celebrate success and provide help to anyone who has reached a brick wall.
Western Winter Concert
The Western High School Band will hold its Winter Concert on Mon., Dec. 12, at 7 p.m. in Neuhauser Auditorium at Western High School. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. A free-will donation will be taken as admission to the event. The Winter Guard will hold a bake sale from 6-7 p.m. prior to the event.

Digital Den Tech Class
The Kokomo Howard County Public Library will hold a Tech Class on Google Search from 1-2 p.m. on Tue., Dec. 13, in the main branch’s Digital Den, 220 N. Union St. This program for adults will teach participants how to us Google Search. Learn tips and tricks to help you navigate the search engine to make searching a breeze.
Preschool STEAM
The Kokomo Howard County Public Library will hold a Preschool STEAM program on Tue., Dec. 13, from 2-2:30 p.m. at its Main branch, 220 N. Union St. This program is for children ages 3-5. Dress for a mess.
Elf Jr. the Musical
The Kokomo Middle School Choirs will perform Elf Jr. The Musical on Tue., Dec. 13, and Thu., Dec. 15, at 6 p.m. at the Maple Crest Auditorium, 2720 S. Washington St. Doors open at 5 p.m. Tickets are available at the door for $5 for adults and $3 for children. Children ages 4 and under are admitted free.

Santa Workshop
The Very Early Childhood Development Center, 210 W. Walnut St., will hold a free Santa Workshop on Wed., Dec. 14, and Dec. 21 from 1-3 p.m. This event is open to parents with children ages birth through 6 years. Enter the workshop. Choose a free book or electronic book set for each child. Elves will then wrap them for you to take home and place under the tree. The line will form at the back door of the building. Winter Weather Spotter and Safety Presentation
The U.S. National Weather Service, Indianapolis, will hold a virtual Winter Weather Spotter and Safety presentation on Wed., Dec. 14, from 4-5:30 p.m. In this live, online class, participants will learn about winter weather hazards, keeping safe, and how to measure snowfall and make reports to the National Weather Service. Holidays Around the Globe
Learn how others celebrate different holidays around the world at the Holidays Around the Globe event at the Kokomo Howard County Public Library’s South Campus, 1755 E. Center Road, on Wed., Dec. 14, from 6-7:30 p.m. The library will share about traditions, recipes, and activities from other countries.
Dimensions of Wellness
Community Howard Regional Health will hold a virtual seminar entitled “Dimensions of Wellness: Holistic Approach to Health,” on Wed., Dec. 14, from 6-8 p.m. People often think about wellness in terms of physical health: nutrition, exercise, weight management, etc., but it involves much more. Wellness is a holistic integration of physical, mental, and spiritual well-being, fueling the body, engaging the mind, and nurturing the spirit. While overall health is important, living life fully and becoming the best version of oneself is equally important. This discussion will review the dimensions of health and how they all interact together. This event will be instructed by certified health coach Rachel Baker and Dr. Homer Schreckengost. Pajama Storytime Holiday Celebration
The Kokomo Howard County Public Library will hold a Pajama Storytime Holiday Celebration on Thu., Dec. 15, from 10-10:30 a.m. at its Russiaville branch, 315 Mesa Dr. Dress the kids in their PJs and come celebrate the holidays with stories, singing, and a craft. No registration is required, but supplies are limited to the first 20 to attend.
Christmas at the Seiberling
The Howard County Historical Society will host this year’s Christmas at the Seiberling with evening hours each Thursday and Friday in December from 4-8 p.m. at the Seiberling Mansion, 1200 W. Sycamore St. A special “candlelight” self-guided tour evening will be held on Dec. 24. Regular museum hours are Tuesday through Sunday from 1-4 p.m. Admission is $10. Tickets can be purchased online. Red Ribbon Volunteers Needed
The Kokomo Rescue Mission needs volunteers to drive and deliver Red Ribbon Christmas Boxes on Fri., Dec. 16, beginning at 7:30 a.m. Boxes will be picked up at the mission’s warehouse, 1942 E. Winter Solstice event
Enjoy a craft, hot chocolate, and the sounds of the season when the Dickensian carolers join the Kokomo Howard County Public Library to celebrate the winter solstice on Fri., Dec. 16, from 6-8 p.m. at the library’s Russiaville branch, 315 Mesa Dr. Then join in caroling in the Russiaville neighborhood. Candy Toss
The Taylor Township Fire Department will hold a Candy Toss on Sat., Dec. 17, beginning at 8 a.m. Fire trucks and ambulances will travel through the township with plenty of candy to share, resuming the annual tradition that dates back more than 30 years. Listen for the sirens and be on the lookout for their arrival. You can also follow the 2022 Taylor Twp Candy Toss page on Facebook to track the fire truck’s location.
Dungeons and Dragons Library
Join the Kokomo Howard County Public Library on Sat., Dec. 17, from 12:30-5 p.m. for a Dungeons and Dragons Library event, which will take place at the Main branch, 220 N. Union St. What kind of adventure are you in the mood for? Dragons? Vampires? Giants? Bring two to four friends and check out a Game Master to begin the game. All experience levels are welcome. This event is for participants in high school through adults.
Books with Belle
Bring your prince or princess for a singing, storytelling show, posing for photos, princess lessons, autographs, and show and tell at the Kokomo Howard County Public Library’s Books with Belle event on Sat., Dec. 17, from 1-2 p.m. at the Main branch’s Children’s Department, 220 N. Union St. This event is for children ages 3-11.
Pictures with the Grinch
Get pictures with the Grinch, write letters to Santa, create holiday cards, and watch The Grinch movie at a free Pictures with the Grinch event at the Kokomo Howard County Public Library South Branch, 1755 E. Center Road, on Sat., Dec. 17, from 1-4 p.m. This event, sponsored by True Professional Tax Services, is free to the public, but donations will be accepted to benefit the Family Service Association of Howard County.

The Kokomo Howard County Public Library will hold a Play Dough Play event on Sun., Dec. 18, from 3-3:30 p.m. at its Main Branch Discovery Center, 220 N. Union St. Kids will use Play Dough to build a variety of skills, learning their ABCs, listening, learning vocabulary, writing their names, letter-sound matching, and memory.
Next Chapter Book Club

Camp Tycony Winter Camp
The Kokomo Family YMCA will hold a Winter Camp at Camp Tycony on weekdays from Dec. 21, 2022, until Jan. 3, 2023. Campers will spend their Winter Break participating in various activities, weather permitting, including archery, canoeing and kayaking, hiking, and sports games, along with extra-special Christmas-themed activities. City of Lights
The annual City of Lights holiday display in Highland Park, 900 W. Defenbaugh St., will open to the public beginning on Fri., Nov. 25, and running through Dec. 24. The display opens at dusk. Santa Claus will be on hand from 6-10 p.m. each evening. Admission is free.
Favors Free Christmas Dinner
The 27th annual Favors Free Christmas Dinner will take place on Sun., Dec. 25, at Morning Star Church, 2900 E. Markland Ave. There will be no dining in this year. Just pick up and grab and go options will be available from 2-3 p.m. at the church and at 402 E. Mulberry St. Deliveries can be made to shut-ins, the elderly, and Meals on Wheels recipients. To volunteer for this event, call Judy Favors at 765-457-3853. Please call no later than 5 p.m. on Christmas Eve to arrange for deliveries.
Drive Thru Live Nativity
Enjoy the lights while reading the story of Jesus’ birth at an outdoor light display and drive thru live Nativity at the ConneXion Church, 700 E. Southway Blvd. The light display takes place now through Dec. 27 nightly from 6-9:30 p.m. The live nativity will take place Dec. 16-17 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. each evening. Admission is free.

Antique and Collectible Show and Sale
An Antique and Collectible Show will be held at the Howard County 4H Fairgrounds Block Building in Greentown on Dec. 31, 2022, from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m., and Jan. 1, 2023, from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. Items offered during the event include toys, pattern glass, primitives, furniture, advertising, pottery, books, jewelry, Flo-Blue, depression glass, postcards, and more. Girls Who Code Book Club
The Kokomo Howard County Public Library will hold a Girls Who Code Book Club event on Fri., Jan. 20, from 4:30-5:30 p.m. at its main branch, 220 N. Union St., in the Discovery Center. This event is for children ages 8-13. Kids will read “Learn to Code and Change the World” by Reshma Saujani and complete fun coding activities. KAA Pastel Classes
The Kokomo Art Association will host Pastel classes for beginners and intermediate artists each Thursday from Feb. 2 to March 2, 2023. This five-week class will teach beginners the basics and explore advanced techniques like “wet pastel” for more experienced users. Learn how to use different surfaces, hard and soft pastels, principles of composition, color theory, and layering techniques from Avon Waters, a juried-in associate member of the Pastel Society of America. Participants who don’t have supplies can share a pastel set during the class. Cost is $15 per session.
