Kokomo Bobkats Basketball
The Kokomo Bobkats will play a home game against Flint United on Sun., March 12, Kokomo Memorial Gymnasium, 200 N. Apperson Way. Game time is 3:05 p.m. Gates open one hour before tip-off. IUK Observatory Open House
What planets exist outside our solar system? NASA’s Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite, or TESS, is searching for the answer to that question. Learn more about TESS at the Indiana University Kokomo Observatory’s free open house, from 8-10 p.m. Sunday, March 12. Patrick Motl, professor of physics, will begin the open house with discussion of TESS. He will also talk about the Carmenes survey, which is examining 300 M-dwarf stars for signs of exoplanets. After the talk, stargazers may be able to see Jupiter, Venus, and the winter hexagon constellations, which will be near overhead at sunset, through the Observatory’s two telescopes. Viewing will continue until 10 p.m. The Observatory is located at 2660 S. Washington Street. Admission and parking are free.
Greenlawn Cemetery Clean-Up
The Greenlawn Cemetery, 745 E, CR 50 N, will conduct Spring clean-up from March 12-18. If decorations are to be kept, they need to be removed by March 18. All decorations remaining on grave spaces after that date will be removed by cemetery personnel and disposed of. Families wintering in the south should have a friend or family member remove decorations if they want the decorations kept.

Nursery Rhyme Time
The Kokomo Howard County Public Library will hold Nursery Rhyme Time at its Russiaville branch, 315 Mesa Dr., from 10 a.m. until noon on Mon., March 13, 20, April 3, 10, 17, and 24. During this seven-week program, your children will be introduced to a rhyme, accompanied by fun, hands-on activities. Drop in and stay as long as you’d like. This event is for children ages birth through 5 years old.
Sew Much
Teens and adults can drop in to learn sewing or quilting basics or get help with their projects at the Kokomo Howard County Public Library’s Sew Much event on Mon., March 13, from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. and from 4-7 p.m. Sewing machines provided. This event takes place at the library’s south branch, 1755 E. Center Road.
STEAM Mania
Enjoy fun and games related to science, technology, engineering, art, and math on Mon., March 13, from 3-5 p.m. at the Kokomo Howard County Public Library’s Russiaville branch, 315 Mesa Dr. This event is intended for children ages 6-13.
Galveston Parks Master Plan Meeting
The Town of Galveston will host a meeting to present a draft of its five-year Parks and Recreation Master Plan on Mon., March 13, at 5 p.m. The public is invited to attend, obtain information, and make comment at this event. Exhibits will be on display beginning at 5 p.m., and a short presentation will follow at 5:15 p.m., explaining the master planning process, public input received, the town’s vision, and the draft action plan. Comments, suggestions, and questions will be accepted following the presentation. This input will be considered at the town finalizes the master plan. The meeting will take place at the Theo Metcalf Community Center, 101 Park Road. Refreshments will be served. The Town of Galveston will provide necessary and reasonable auxiliary aids and services to individuals with disabilities for this meeting with at least three days’ advance notice. CDL-A Night Classes
Ivy Tech Community College Kokomo will offer CDL-A truck driving classes March 13 through Apr. 21 and Apr. 24 through June 2. This six-week training course will be taught by Summit Commercial Driver Training. Classes will be held from 5-9 p.m. each session. Kokomo Center Township Consolidated Schools announces its Spring middle school athletics try-outs. Taylor Elementary School Round-Up
Taylor Community Schools’ Kindergarten and Titan Titans preschool round-up for the 2022-23 school year will take place at Taylor Elementary School on Wed., March 15, from 9-11 a.m. and 1-6:30 p.m. Parents must make an appointment by calling 765-453-3800. Parents also should visit the Taylor Elementary School website at www.taylor.k12.in.us to complete new student enrollment prior to coming to the round-up. Children should also attend the round-up in order to meet the Kindergarten and preschool teachers and to participate in activities. To attend Kindergarten, a child must be 5 years of age on or before Aug. 1. To attend Pre-K, a child must be 4 years of age by Aug. 1. To attend preschool, a child must be 3 years old by Aug. 1 and be potty trained. Veteran Town Hall
A Veteran Town Hall meeting will take place on Thu., March 16, from 5-6 p.m. at the VFW 1152 Post, 920 N. Washington St. The event is hosted by the VA Northern Indiana Health Care System. Staff from the Indianapolis regional office will be available to assist and answer questions about disability benefits. Additional information will be provided on the Veterans Readiness and Employment Program, which helps qualified Veterans prepare for, find, and maintain suitable employment. Information also will be available on the VA’s Fiduciary Program, which provides oversight of VA funds for Veterans who are unable to manage their financial affairs due to injury, disease, or age. IUK LEAD Conference
Members of the Indiana University Kokomo Women in Business Student Association invite students and the community to its annual Learn. Empower. Achieve. Dream. (L.E.A.D.) conference set for Thursday, March 30, in the Kelley Student Center, 2300 S. Washington St. Keynote speakers include Hannah Austin, CEO and founder of SheShatters, an expert on burnout prevention; and Anthony Juliano, speaking about the pitfalls of social media. IUK High School Exhibition
Indiana University Kokomo’s Art Gallery, 2300 S. Washington St., will host its annual high school exhibition through March 30. The exhibition will feature art from students attending 11 area high schools. This event is free and open to the public.
Securing the Vote: Women’s Suffrage
The Kokomo Howard County Public Library will host a traveling exhibit from the Indiana Historical Society featuring women’s suffrage. The exhibit will be on display at the main branch, 220 N. Union St., throughout the month of March. The display explores how women across Indiana labored for suffrage through meetings, campaigns, and grassroots efforts.
Basketball Training and Call-Out
The JC Barnett School of Jump Shooting will hold a basketball training session and call-out for exhibition tour teams on Sat., April 8,, at the St. Patrick Church gymnasium, 1204 N. The Kokomo Parks and Recreation Department is offering its Spring session of Pint-Size Chef. The sessions will take place on Tuesdays from April 11 through May 16. The cost is $30 per child. Kokomo INSIght is a newly reformed support group for Howard County residents experiencing blindness, low vision, and vision loss. Come to downtown Kokomo on Fri., May 5, for a plein air paint-out competition. The event will coincide with Kokomo’s First Friday event. The plein air paint-out will be an opportunity for artists to depict downtown Kokomo between 4-7 p.m. and compete for $450 in prizes. Awards will be announced at 7:30 p.m. Pre-registration is not required. To participate in this free event, artists must sign in at the Kokomo Art Association booth in front of Beckley’s Office Equipment, 112 S. Artsapalooza Art Competition
Come to downtown Kokomo on June 2 for a plein air paint-out competition. The event will coincide with Kokomo’s annual Strawberry Festival and Artsapalooza Art Market. The plein air paint-out will be an opportunity for artists to depict downtown Kokomo between 7:30 a.m. – 5 p.m. and compete for $1,400 in prizes. The competition will be juried by Cincinnati artist Brad Davis. Awards will be announced at 6:30 p.m., and participating artists will have an opportunity to exhibit their paintings at the IU Kokomo Campus Gallery until the end of June. Pre-registration is not required. To participate in this free event, artists must sign in at the Kokomo Art Association Artworks Gallery, 210 N. Main St., between 7:30 – 9:30 a.m. and have their substrates (canvas, panel, etc.) stamped. A valid stamp will be required if artists want to be considered for the available awards. As a note, if an artist would like to exhibit their work at the IUK campus gallery, they will need to fill out some information about their work, along with their contact info, and have a ready-to-hang frame available. Sunday in the Park Car Show
The Kokomo Automotive Museum will hold its annual Sunday in the Park Car Show on Father’s Day, Sun., June 18, in Highland Park. Dash plaques will be given to the first 100 entries. The event will include music, door prizes, food vendors, plenty of shade, and open parking. Details to follow soon.
KAA 2023 Photo Show
The Kokomo Art Association will feature its 2023 Photo Show from July 1-29. Drop-off for works to be considered for the show is June 24 The show will take place at the Artworks Gallery, 210 N. Main St. For more information, email kokomoartassociation2014@gmail.com.
