Join the Kokomo Howard County Public Library in creating handmade greeting cards at the south branch, 1755 E. Center Road, from 2-5 p.m. Participants will have the opportunity to create three cards to send words of encouragement to their friends. Supplies will be provided. This event is for adults.
KHCPL Russiaville Anniversary
Join the Kokomo Howard County Public Library for live music and dessert as it celebrates the 25th anniversary of the library’s Russiaville branch, 315 Mesa Dr., on Sun., Jan. 8, from 3-4:30 p.m. Share your memories and stories of how the library branch made your life better. A Russiaville community photo will be taken at 2:45 p.m. before the celebration. This photo will be included in a time capsule which will be prepared as part of the anniversary celebration.
Curtain Call Auditions
Curtain Call Theatre for Children will hold auditions for its spring musical, “There’s a Monster in My Closet,” on Sun., Jan. 8, from 4-7 p.m. Call-back auditions will be Jan. 9 from 6-8 p.m. at the Curtain Call Studio, 2114 N. Armstrong St. The auditions are open to performers in grades 1-12. Rehearsals will be select Sunday, Monday, and Thursday evenings. The production dates are March 17-18. The Kokomo Howard County Public Library will hold Drums Alive sessions for all ages beginning on Jan. 6. Homeschool Beats for all ages will be held from 2:30-3:15 p.m. at the library’s south branch, 1755 E. Center Road, on Jan. 13, 20, and 27. Family Beats for all ages will be held at the south branch from 6:30-7:15 p.m. on Jan. 9, 23, and 30, and at the main branch, 220 N. Union St., from 5-6 p.m. on Feb. 1, 8, and 15. Party Beats for adults ages 18 and up will be held at the south branch from 5:30-6:15 p.m. on Jan. 9, 23, and 30. Wear comfy clothes and shoes and join the library to use drumsticks and an exercise ball for a fun activity for all ages and abilities. Kokomo Symphony Concert

Point in Time Census
The Point in Time census, tracking homelessness in Howard County, will take place on Thu., Jan. 26. Those who are homeless are encouraged to visit either the Kokomo Rescue Mission, 321 W. Mulberry St., between 11:30 a.m. and 6 p.m., or CAM, 625 N. Union St., between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Those who attend the census will receive a care package which includes blankets, toiletry items, hats, gloves, and more. The Point in Time census survey is confidential and voluntary.

Doing the Dream 2023
Ivy Tech Community College will host its 19th annual Doing the Dream programs honoring the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. on Jan. 26-27. Dr. Cornel West, a distinguished philosopher, author, and social commentator, will be the keynote speaker at the event. The annual community banquet will be held on Thu., Jan. 26, beginning at 6 p.m. in Hingst Hall on the Ivy Tech campus. Tickets for the banquet are $60 each and will be available until Jan. 20 or while supplies last. All proceeds from the banquet support the Ivy Tech Kokomo “Doing the Dream” Diversity Scholarship. A free convocation open to all high school and college students will be held on Fri., Jan. 27, in person and virtually. KAA Pastel Classes
The Kokomo Art Association will host Pastel classes for beginners and intermediate artists each Thursday from Feb. 2 to March 2, 2023. This five-week class will teach beginners the basics and explore advanced techniques like “wet pastel” for more experienced users. Learn how to use different surfaces, hard and soft pastels, principles of composition, color theory, and layering techniques from Avon Waters, a juried-in associate member of the Pastel Society of America. Participants who don’t have supplies can share a pastel set during the class. Cost is $15 per session. Walk a Mile in My Shoes
The Kokomo Rescue Mission fundraiser Walk a Mile in My Shoes has been scheduled for Sat., Feb. 11. This event is a one-mile walk where teams or individuals walk to raise support for the Mission’s women’s shelters. Additional information will be made available next week.
Humane Society Stand-Up Comedy
The Kokomo Humane Society will hold a February FUNdraiser featuring stand-up comedy on Sat., Feb. 25, from 7-9 p.m. at Kokomo Sun King, 500 N. Buckeye St. Comedians Dave Dugan and Dave Wilson will headline the event, which will include drinks, snacks, and adorable dogs for people to meet. KUBS Registration
Registration is open for the 2023 Kokomo United Baseball-Softball (KUBS) season, which tentatively will begin on April 1. There are leagues available for children ages 4-15.
