Fall Straw Maze
Check out the Kokomo Howard County Public Library’s Fall Straw Maze anytime in October at the library’s Russiaville branch, 315 Mesa Dr. The maze opens on Sun., Oct. 1 from 9 a.m. until 8 p.m.
Pumpkin Painting
Join the Kokomo Howard County Public Library at Sun King Kokomo, 500 N. Buckeye St., on Sun., Oct. 1, from 1-4 p.m. to paint your pumpkin! The Digital Den will provide stencils made from using the Cricut to help make your pumpkin painting look incredible with ease!
Sip and Relax
Make your own loose-leaf tea infusions and sample the work of others at the Kokomo Howard County Public Library’s Sip and Relax event on Sun., Oct. 1, from 3-4 p.m. This event takes place at the library’s main branch, 220 N. Red Shirt Rally Practice Picket
The United Auto Workers Local 685 will hold a Red Shirt Rally Practice Picket on Sun., Oct. 1, at the Local 685 Union Hall, 929 E. Hoffer St. Union members and supporters should begin arriving at 4 p.m. for a 5 p.m. start. The public and any and all unions are welcome to attend.
It’s a Wonderful Life Auditions
Kokomo Civic Theatre will hold auditions for its next production, “It’s a Wonderful Life: A Live Radio Play,” on Sun., Oct. 1, and Mon., Oct. 2, at 7 p.m. in the KCT Warehouse, 722 N. McCann St. This unique production features a dedicated cast of at least five talented "radio actors" – two women and three men – who skillfully portray approximately 40 characters from the heartwarming story of "It's a Wonderful Life." Additionally, a live sound effects person (foley artist) will be on stage, creating all the captivating soundscapes that enhance the audience's experience. This live production also calls for roles for an on-stage announcer and a stage manager. The number of radio actors may vary depending on the talent pool during auditions, but versatility is key, as each radio actor will be responsible for voicing multiple characters throughout the performance. Just like in an authentic 1940s radio program, the radio actors will have their scripts in hand, immersing the audience in a nostalgic journey back in time. Performance dates are December 1-3. A script is on reserve at the downtown branch of the Kokomo Howard County Public Library for anyone wishing to review it in advance.
Empty the Shelters
The Kokomo Humane Society, 729 E. Hoffer St., will hold its Empty the Shelters Fall Adoption event from Oct. 1-15. With the assistance of the Bissell Foundation, adoption fees will be reduced to $50 for dogs and $20 for cats. Trail of Scarecrows
The Greentown Public Library invites you to design, create and sponsor a scarecrow! Scarecrows will be displayed along the Comet Trail in Greentown Oct. 1 through Oct. 31. It is free to enter a scarecrow, and there is no registration fee. Goodfellows Sign-Up
Applications for the 2023 Goodfellows Christmas program will be available online from Oct. 1-31 at www.goodfellowskokomo.org. Submit application as soon as possible. All communication concerning your application will be by email, including approval, denial, and if any other additional information or documents are needed for the process. Make sure your application is completed in full. Any application that is not correctly completed or is missing documents will be denied. You may be asked to submit additional information for your application. You will have seven days from the date of the email to provide the requested information, or your application will be disqualified. No applications will be accepted after Oct. 31 for any circumstance. For questions, feel free to check out the FAQ section of the Goodfellows website. Candidate Forum
In advance of the Nov. 7 general election, the Kokomo Tribune, League of Women Voters of the Howard County Area, and the Greater Kokomo Chamber of Commerce will host a candidate forum at IU Kokomo Kresge Auditorium, 2300 S. Washington St. on Mon., Oct. 2. The forum will begin at 6 p.m. and will be followed by a reception for candidates in all races, opposed and unopposed. The Drive
The Drive, a business pitch competition presented by the Inventrek Technology Park, will take place during a “Shark Tank”-style event on Thu., Oct. 5, at 6 p.m. at Hingst Hall on the Ivy Tech Kokomo campus, 1815 E. Morgan St. Contestants will pitch their business idea to a panel of judges in front of an audience. The event is open to the public, and there is no cost to attend.

Family Farm Adventures
The Kendall Family Farm Adventures Corn Maze and Pumpkin Patch will open Fridays from 5-9 p.m., Saturdays from 11 a.m. – 9 p.m., and Sundays from 12-6 p.m. through Oct. 29. Rush to Russiaville Arts and Crafts Show
More than 40 vendors will be on site with hand-made crafts and direct sales items at the Rush to Russiaville Arts and Crafts Show on Sat., Oct. 7, from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. The event takes place at the Russiaivlle Lions Club, 555 N. Liberty St., and the Jeff Stout Community Center, 650 N. West St. Food trucks will also be accessible from breakfast through lunch. The event will feature a raffle with the proceeds being split by the Russiaville Lion’s Club and Russiaville Community Outreach to help fund programs in the community.
Alpaca Farm Open House
Join Heritage Farm, 4175 N, County Road 1200 W, for a free, fun-filled, family-friendly, autumn day with the alpacas during its open farm event on Sat., Oct. 7, from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. See and interact with more than 50 alpacas, including six babies (crias). Watch alpaca fiber spinning demonstrations. Create an alpaca craft. Participate in the Alpaca Olympics. Enjoy a tractor-drawn wagon ride. Zip down the 50 foot-long hill slide, and search for clues and win prizes in the Alpaca Treasure Hunt. After the activities, you can wind down with popcorn and lemonade while listening to live music.

Pumpkin Painting
The Kokomo Parks and Recreation Department will hold a free pumpkin painting event on Sat., Oct. 7, from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. in Jackson Morrow Park, 4200 S. Park Road. Free pumpkins and paint supplies will be available to the public while supplies last. You also can bring your own pumpkins and paint.
Fall Family Movie Night

Kokomo Community Concerts
Single event and season tickets are now on sale for the 2023-24 Kokomo Community Concerts series. Each concert will take place at the Kokomo High School auditorium, 2501 S. SNAP Enrollment Event
The Howard County Food Access Alliance will hold a SNAP enrollment event on Tue., Oct. 10, from 3-6 p.m. at Grace United Methodist Church, 219 W. Mulberry St. In partnership with Food Finders Food Bank, the alliance will serve a hearty meal, provided by Food 4 Souls. KHCPL Blood Drive
Help save a life. The Kokomo Howard County Public Library will hold a blood drive in conjunction with the American Red Cross on Thu., Oct. 12, from 1-6 p.m. The event takes place at the library’s south branch, 1755 E. Center Road.
Howard County Reads: Nikki Erlick

Kokomo Klash XVII
The Kokomo Speedway, 10914 Cannonade Ct., will host Kokomo Klash XVII on Fri., Oct. 13, and Sat., Oct. 14. Non-Wing Sprints, 305 Sprints – Winged, Sportsman, Thunder Cars, and Dirt Super Late Models, Modifieds, Street Stocks and Hornets all will be featured in racing action. General admission is $20. Ivy Tech’s Dueling Pianos
Ivy Tech Community College Kokomo will be rocking on Fri., Oct. 13, when “Dueling Pianos” returns to help celebrate the college’s 60th birthday and raise funds to support Ivy Tech students throughout the six Hoosier counties it serves. With the musical theme of “Education is Key,” the evening will begin at 5:30 p.m. in Hingst Hall on the Ivy Tech Kokomo campus, 1815 E. Morgan St., and will feature “Dueling Pianos,” dinner, and a variety of activities to raise funds for scholarships. A21 Walk for Freedom
A21, an organization dedicated to raising awareness about human trafficking, will hold an awareness walk on Sat., Oct. 14, from 9 a.m. until noon. The walk will start and finish at Fresh Start Ministries, 801 W. Mulberry St. Participants will walk wearing black and in silence to represent those with no voice. The walk is about 2 miles. The new “Trolls” film release date is in November, but the Kokomo Howard County Public Library will get the party started early with the biggest, loudest, craziest party ever on Sat., Oct. 14, from 10-11 a.m. at the library’s south branch, 1755 E. Halloween Hustle 5K Run/Walk
Howard County Prevent Child Abuse will hold a Halloween Hustle 5K Run/Walk on Sat., Oct. 14. The event will start and end at Sun King Kokomo, 500 N. Buckeye St. Registration begins at noon, and the race begins at 1 p.m. The entry fee is $30 and includes a pint glass.
