Pooches at the Pool
Pooches at the Pool will take place at the Kokomo Beach Family Aquatic Center, 802 W. Park Ave., on Sun., Aug. 13, from 5-7 p.m. Fee is $5 per dog with a limit of one dog per person. Water play is for pets only. Visit https://www.cityofkokomo.org/departments/kokomo_beach.php for more information.
PAL Football and Cheerleading
The Police Athletic League is accepting registrations for fall football and cheerleading. Registration is open until Aug. 13 and can be completed by visiting www.kokomopalsports.com. Payment is required at the time of registration. In-person sign-ups will be taken at the PAL Field. 3520 W. Boulevard St., every Wednesday in July and August from 10 a.m. until noon. There will be flag football and cheerleading for kids in grades K-2 and tackle football and cheerleading for kids in grades 3-6. New Baby Bunch
Do you have a new bundle of joy? Or do you feel like you’re in the trenches of parenting? Join the New Baby Bunch for friendship, support, and to share your parenting journey with other caregivers. The group meets each Monday from 9:30-11 a.m. at the Kokomo Howard County Public Library’s south branch, 1755 E. Center Road. The next meeting is Mon., Aug. 14. Go Wild Outside

Sew Much
Teens and adults can drop in to learn sewing or quilting basics or get help with their projects at the Kokomo Howard County Public Library’s Sew Much event on Mon., Aug. 14, from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. and from 4-7 p.m. Sewing machines provided. This event takes place at the library’s south branch, 1755 E. Center Road.
Bridges Outreach Resumes
Bridges Outreach is excited to launch its 20th year in Kokomo Middle and High schools. After-school sessions will begin on Aug. 14 at Bon Air and Central middle schools and will meet on Mondays and Wednesdays. Sessions begin on Aug. 15 at Maple Crest and BTC (high school) and will meet on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Bridges Outreach offers fields trips, snacks, life lessons, games, and homework help. Applications for the program are available at each school’s main office.
Americans and the Holocaust Focus Groups
The Kokomo Howard County Public Library is proud to be one of 50 U.S. libraries selected to host Americans and the Holocaust: A Traveling Exhibition for Libraries from the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum. Participate in an upcoming focus group about the exhibition and receive a $50 gift card to a bookstore. Focus groups will be conducted by Audience Focus and will be offered both online and at the library’s, main branch, 220 N. Union St. Everyone who participates will receive a gift card. Pastel Sessions
The Kokomo Art Association will host beginner to intermediate Pastel Sessions with Avon Waters each Thursday in August from 2-4 p.m. Learn to mix colors on the page, different approaches to painting the images in pure dry pigment, how different surfaces create different effects, and much more. Howard County Hall of Legends
The Howard County Historical Society will induct its latest class into the Howard County Hall of Legends on Thu., Aug. 17. Inductees this year include Meta Christy, Ben Cotner, Rachel Jenkins, Rev. Robert A. Lee, Dr. Lance Washington, and Don Moore, who will join a remarkable group of people and organizations with at least one thing in common: a commitment to improving life for others in Howard County, the state of Indiana, and nationwide. Music at the Fairgrounds
The Greentown Main Street Association presents Music at the Fairgrounds, a weekly concert series which takes place in front of the Community Building at the Howard County 4H Fairgrounds. The concerts will take place each Thursday evening at 7 p.m. The Aug. 17 show features Spittin’ Image. In case of rain, all concerts will be held in the fairgrounds' cattle barn.
Winding Creek Bluegrass Festival
The Winding Creek Bluegrass Festival will take place Aug. 17-20 at 9912 W, County Road 100 S, Russiaville. Tickets are available now by visiting www.windingcreekbluegrass.com. The event takes place rain or shine. Children 12 and under attend free. Students ages 13-22 attend for half price. Over the first three days, enjoy bluegrass music from the Kevin Prater Band, the Last Minute Band, Alec Hurtubise, New Outlook, Branded Bluegrass, The Baker Family, Cornfields and Crossroads, and the Medicinal Bluegrass Band. There will be food and craft vendors, including beer and wine from The Coterie. Workshops for adults and children will be held on Sat., Aug. 19. New for 2023, Aug. 20 will be Gospel Sunday. An outdoor church service takes place at 9 a.m., featuring the Winding Creek Friends Band and a sermon by Bill Martin. Mrs. Kate will hold a Singin’ and Smilin’ kids sing-along at 1 p.m. Performances from the Bahler Golden Age Band, Mackville, and Anchored will take place throughout the day. The 2023 Klub Kokomo and Carver Community Center Amateur Golf Tournament will be held Aug-18-20 at Chippendale Golf Course. Kokomo Symphony’s 50th Season

Habitat for Humanity Garage Sale
The Habitat for Humanity warehouse, 202. W. Havens St., is full, so it is having a garage sale to clean it out on Fri., Aug. 25, and Sat. Aug. 26, from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m. each day. Items include countertops, double vanities, spa tubs, shower inserts, exterior doors, and much more. All proceeds from this fundraiser will go straight back into the organization to assist families in the community. No early birds. Greentown 175th Anniversary Celebration
The Town of Greentown will celebrate its 175th year with two days of anniversary events on Fri., Aug. 25, and Sat., Aug. 26. The event begins on Friday at 3 p.m. as vendors open for business along North Meridian Street. The Medicinal Bluegrass Band will take the main stage at 5 p.m., followed by the Southern Rock Authority at 8 p.m. On Saturday, things kick off with a community prayer breakfast at Blondie’s Cookies on Main Street at 8 a.m. Vendors open for business at 10 a.m. The anniversary parade begins at 11 a.m. The Kokomo Park Band and Wrangler and Friends will entertain at 1 p.m., and the American Legion will conduct the Presentation of Colors at the Greentown Historical Society at 1:45 p.m. At 2 p.m., there will be an ice cream social and the opening of the town’s time capsule while Kokomo Men of Note perform. A bourbon and wine tasting takes place at 3 p.m. with live acoustic music by Josh Mast. Registration is open now for the Kokomo Parks and Recreation Department’s fall session of Pint Size Chef. Classes will be held each Tuesday from Sept. 5 until Oct. 10. Cost is $30 per child. 9/11 Memorial Tribute Challenge
Honor those who gave their lives in the Twin Towers on 9/11 by participating in one of four events to take place on Sat., Sept. 9, from 8:46 a.m. until 5 p.m., at Kokomo Municipal Stadium. Participate in more than one event to receive a discount. The cost is $25 for one event, $45 for two events, $70 for three events, and $80 for all four events. Carver Dance Classes
The Carver Community Center, 1030 N. Purdum St., will hold dance fusion classes beginning Wed., Sept. 13. Dance fusion combines elements of ballet, jazz, and contemporary dance into an energetic and fun class that teaches students the fundamentals of technique, flexibility, musicality, and body awareness. The Family Service Association’s 2023 Angel Walk takes place Tue., Oct. 24, with a rally beginning at 5:30 p.m. and a one-mile walk following at 6 p.m. on the campus of Indiana University Kokomo, 2300 S. Black and White Masquerade
The Black and White Masquerade, a charity event to benefit Kokomo Urban Outreach’s UP Program, will take place on Thu. Sept. 21, at 6 p.m. at the Bel Air, 3014 S. Drums Along the Wildcat
The City of Kokomo and the Kokomo Native Initiative are proud to announce the first-ever pow-wow in Kokomo. Drums Along the Wildcat will take place on Sat., Sept. 23, from 10 a.m. until dark in Foster Park. The event is free to the public.
