The members of Woodland Church of God have spent nights in preparation for the return of a special Halloween event. The church will host the Woodland Walk on Sun., Oct. 29, from 6-8 p.m. The event takes place at the church, 3401 S. Webster St.
According to Brittany Alley, worship pastor, the last time the church put on the Woodland Walk was 2018. The pandemic derailed the celebration over the past few years.
“We spent (Oct. 23) packing bags of candy for our event,” said Alley. “We are so excited! The Woodland Walk is designed to bring families in and give them candy, yes. But it is to also show them the life and miracles of Jesus through a presentation and song.”
Alley said that the church hopes to see as many as 1,300 children trick-or-treating at the Woodland Walk. The entire community is invited to dress up in costumes and attend.
Deadline for statehouse internships Oct. 31
State Reps. Mike Karickhoff (R-Kokomo) and Heath VanNatter (R-Kokomo) encourage local college students and recent graduates to apply online for an internship at the Indiana Statehouse before the Oct. 31 deadline.
The House of Representatives offers paid spring internships to college sophomores, juniors, seniors, graduate students and recent graduates of all majors. Interns will receive $900 biweekly while working at the Indiana Statehouse in downtown Indianapolis during the 2024 legislative session, which begins in January and concludes mid-March.
Karickhoff said interested Hoosiers should visit indianahouserepublicans.com/internship and complete the application before Oct. 31.
"Employers value and look for candidates who gain experience and skills through programs like this," Karickhoff said. "An Indiana House Republican internship sets applicants apart from others when applying for jobs and connects young professionals with leaders from across the state."
According to VanNatter, positions are available in legislative operations where interns work directly with constituents and help track committee activity. The communications department is looking for interns to help write press releases and email newsletters, and work with social media, graphic design and audio/video production. The policy department is also in need of interns to help research, track and analyze legislation.
"We rely on interns for a variety of tasks like communicating with constituents, editing video content and researching legislation," VanNatter said. "Students and recent graduates should consider the benefits this program presents, like networking and professional development, and apply before the deadline."
Internships are full time, Monday through Friday, and include free parking, career and professional development assistance, enrollment access to an Indiana government class, and opportunities to earn academic credits through the student's college or university. Interns are also eligible to apply for a competitive $3,000 scholarship to use toward undergraduate and graduate expenses.
