The lobby of the Kokomo Family YMCA was filled with booths. So was the Community Room. And hundreds of people turned out to receive important health information, entertain their kids, and even get a flu shot.
The YMCA Free Health Fair took place on Nov. 21. It was a hit for adults and kids alike. The grown-ups had the chance to sign up and weigh in for the Y’s Holiday Trimmings Club. The kids snatched up prizes and got photos with The Grinch. And thanks to Community Howard Regional Health and its CareMobile clinic, those in attendance could get their vitals monitored and protect against illness with a flu vaccine.
More than 30 vendors were in attendance, from the Kokomo Howard County Public Library and the Kokomo Police Department to Project Access and Moore’s Home Health and Medical Supply. Attendees could learn the basics of CPR, have their vision or blood pressure checked, or learn about addiction recovery or assisted living options. There seemed to be few limits on what was offered, much to the delight of all.
The YMCA’s Holiday Trimmings Club was central to its offerings at the fair. The four-week program is an accountability and motivation program designed to keep people active and healthy during the holiday season. Participants earn stars for completing workouts, participating in the YMCA’s Facebook group, and completing bonus challenges.
Every 10 stars earns participants an entry into a drawing for a one-month YMCA membership, a Hello Fresh gift card, and other gift cards from local business. Participants in the challenge also receive a Holiday Trimmings Club t-shirt. Registration is open until Dec. 19. To register or receive more information, visit https://www.ymcaholidaytrimmings.com/
