The weather outside might be frightful, but for the 40 participants in the Kokomo Family YMCA's Camp Tycony Winter Camp it is fun to be out in nature and eat "s'mores" from a campfire.
Camp Tycony Director A.J. Edwards was busy outdoors with older campers building a fire to make the tasty treats as the younger campers were inside Camp Tycony's dining hall helping to make paper reindeer antlers.
"We do campfire cooking, lots of crafts, and the traditional sports, hiking, archery. We just bundle up for it," noted Edwards.
The campers spend about an hour outside doing activities, then take a break to warm up and work on crafts, Christmas-themed games, and drama workshops.
"It's a lot like Summer camp, only cold," said Edwards.
Camp Tycony has been a tradition at the Kokomo YMCA for 65 years, featuring not only Winter and Summer camps, but a STEM camp as well.
The hours of the Winter camp are 6 a.m. - 6 p.m., and it is open to campers from ages 6-14 years.
Camp Tycony Winter Camp runs through Dec. 29. There is a 50-camper limit to Winter Camp. To find out more information about Camp Tycony go to https://camptycony.com/
